Barclays US Credit Cards (iOS/Android)
You'll need three things:
1 Card number (16 digits, front of card)
2 Security code (3 digits, back of card)
3 Last 4 of SSN (primary cardmember)
Works for all three: JetBlue Card $0/yr JetBlue Plus $99/yr JetBlue Premier $499/yr

Your JetBlue Card Is Issued by Barclays, Not JetBlue

This trips up more new cardholders than you'd expect. You applied on JetBlue's website. The welcome email has the JetBlue logo on it. But the card itself says "Barclays Bank Delaware" on the back, and activation goes through Barclays' systems entirely.

JetBlue doesn't handle activation. Barclays does. All three JetBlue credit card variants are issued by Barclays Bank Delaware, Member FDIC, on the Mastercard network:

JetBlue Card
$0/year · World Mastercard
JetBlue Plus Card
$99/year · World Elite Mastercard
JetBlue Premier Card
$499/year · World Elite Mastercard
Launched Jan 29, 2025

The activation URL is barclaycardus.com — not jetblue.com, not barclaycard.co.uk (that's the UK company, completely different system), and not "jetbluemastercard.com" (a URL cited by several guides online that we could not verify on any official Barclays page).

From Om Prakash: At Credit Card Activate Help, we've documented activation processes for dozens of card issuers. The Barclays system used for JetBlue cards is straightforward in its online activation. The confusion starts after activation, when you need to link your card to your TrueBlue account separately — a step Barclays' activation page doesn't mention at all.

1 Activate Your JetBlue Credit Card Online (Fastest)

This is the quickest path. Takes about two minutes.

Step 1

Go to the Barclays activation page

Type barclaycardus.com/servicing/activate directly into your browser. Don't Google it — the search results for "JetBlue card activation" are polluted with spam sites and unverified URLs right now. Type it.

If you already have a Barclays online account, you can log in to activate your card even faster.

Step 2

Enter three pieces of information

Three fields. That's it.

  • Card number: The 16-digit number on the front of your physical card.
  • Security code: The 3-digit CVV on the back of your card, to the right of the signature strip.
  • Last 4 of your SSN: The last four digits of the primary cardmember's Social Security number.

Worth noting: you need the physical card in hand for this. The card number and CVV are on the physical card. If you were approved online but the card hasn't arrived yet, you can't complete the standard online activation. (More on workarounds for that below.)

Step 3

Create your PIN

After you submit the activation form, Barclays will prompt you to create a 4-digit PIN. Per Barclays' chip card page at barclaycardus.com/servicing/chipcard: "When activating your card online or by phone, you'll be prompted to create a PIN."

This PIN is for cash advances and ATM use, not for everyday purchases — but create it now so you don't have to deal with it later. You can also manage your PIN later by logging into your Barclays account and selecting "Manage my PIN" from the Services menu (per Barclays Help Center FAQs).

Step 4

Confirmation

You'll see a confirmation screen. Done. The card is now active for purchases.

Faster path for existing Barclays customers: If you already have a Barclays account (from an AAdvantage Aviator card, a Wyndham card, or any other Barclays product), the activation page has a "log in to activate your card even faster" link. Use it. Logging in with your existing credentials skips some verification steps because Barclays already has your identity on file.

2 Activate by Phone — Which Number Depends on Your Card

You can call to activate, and Barclays has an automated system for it. But here's the thing: Barclays has different phone numbers for different JetBlue card products, and calling the wrong one sends you to the wrong department.

PurposePhone NumberSource

Fraud / security 866-928-8598 Barclays help center
International callers (collect) 302-255-8888 Barclays help center

Start with 877-408-8866 — that's the dedicated activation line listed under "Credit Card Activation" on Barclays' contact page at cards.barclaycardus.com/banking/contact-us/. If the automated system doesn't resolve it, the activation page itself lists 888-232-0780 as the customer service fallback.

If you're calling from outside the United States, dial 302-255-8888 collect. Barclays' help center confirms: "We'll also accept the charges if you need to reach us through a collect call at 001-302-255-8888." No competitor activation guide mentions this number.

A phone number to be cautious about: Reddit user u/weedwacker31 (r/jetblue, January 2025) reported being told to call 866-749-4157 to resolve an online transaction authentication error. This number doesn't appear on the main Barclays contact page. It may be a Mastercard SecureCode verification line. If Barclays directs you there, it's fine — but don't call it as a first step for activation.

3 Activate Using the Barclays Mobile App

The Barclays US Credit Cards app (listed as "Barclays US" in the App Store and Google Play) also supports card activation, per WalletHub's verified answer (November 2025).

But here's the thing that WalletHub doesn't mention: the app requires you to log in with your Barclays online credentials. If this is your first Barclays card and you haven't set up online access yet, you'll need to create an account at barclaycardus.com first — or just use the online activation page directly.

1 Open the Barclays US Credit Cards app
2 Log in with your existing credentials
3 Tap the "Activate your new card" prompt
4 Enter card number, CVV, and last 4 SSN
5 Create your PIN when prompted

The app is also where you'll add your card to a digital wallet after activation — so downloading it now saves you a step later.

Before Your Card Arrives: Can You Use It?

So what do you do if you're approved today but your flight is tomorrow and the card hasn't arrived?

The honest answer: it's complicated, and the information is contradictory.

The Temporary Card Number Question

u/kylebvogt r/jetblue January 2024
"After she applied and was accepted, she got an email that said something to the effect of, 'congrats on your new JB Mastercard. While you wait for the card to arrive, feel free to use this temp number for any purchases you need to make.'"

But in the same thread, u/encin asked Barclays for a temp number and "they said they cant do that."

u/GoodHumansUnite r/jetblue February 2026
"I applied two weeks ago online, got an immediate approval and temporary card number to book flights with."

And in March 2025, u/Transcontinental-flt reported that a Barclays agent provided the full card number and expiration date by phone, but would not give the CVV — making online purchases impossible.

The takeaway: Barclays sometimes emails a temporary card number upon instant approval, but it isn't guaranteed. If you didn't get one, calling 866-928-3104 (JetBlue Card service) or 877-523-0478 (general inquiries) to ask is worth the attempt — but don't count on it.

Workaround: Book Now, Switch Payment Later

Multiple Reddit users have confirmed a practical workaround: book your JetBlue flight with any card you have now, then call or chat JetBlue to switch the payment to your new JetBlue card after it arrives.

u/DefiantCourage2754 r/jetblue January 2024
"You can always book with any card now, then when you get the new JetBlue card, you can chat in and let them know you just got the card and want to switch the form of payment. They will charge the new card and refund the original. No service fees or anything."
u/Low-Stress7203 r/jetblue January 2024
"JB credited my original payment and put the charges on my new card. They will do it if the flight is at least 7 days away."
How Fast Does the Physical Card Arrive?

u/mistahelias (r/jetblue, January 2024): "Most arrive pretty quick in 3 to 5 days." WalletHub's delivery time answer states 7-10 business days, with expedited shipping available for $15 by calling 866-928-8598 — though that $15 figure is from 2021 and may have changed.

When Activation Fails: Real Troubleshooting from Real Users

I'm spending more time on troubleshooting than most guides because the Barclays activation page itself is simple — it's when something goes wrong that you need a real guide.

Problem 1 Online authentication errors when using the card after activation

This is the most common issue in the Reddit threads. u/weedwacker31 (r/jetblue, January 2025) described a persistent authentication failure after activating the JetBlue Plus Card:

"Authentication cannot be completed. This card cannot currently be used at participating online stores. You must update your information with JetBlue Card before using this card with a participating online merchant."

The card worked fine for in-person tap/chip/swipe purchases and on Apple Pay. It failed specifically when typing card details into online merchant checkout fields — particularly for non-JetBlue airlines and international merchants.

u/ConversationLoud9756 found the fix: "I called Barclays, who asked some authentication questions (what addresses I've been associated with, etc.), and then the card worked."

Fix

Call Barclays directly at 866-928-3104 (JetBlue Card) and ask them to verify your identity for Mastercard SecureCode / 3D Secure authentication. This is a fraud prevention system, not an activation issue.

Problem 2 Card activated but not earning TrueBlue points

This is the issuer/airline disconnect again. Activation through Barclays makes the card work for purchases. But if your TrueBlue number isn't linked to the card, you won't earn JetBlue points. These are two separate systems. See the After Activation section below.

Problem 3 "I don't have the activation code"

A JustAnswer thread from May 2025 shows a user confused about needing an "activation code." There is no separate activation code for Barclays JetBlue cards. The "code" you need is the 3-digit security code (CVV) physically printed on the back of your card. If you don't have your physical card yet, you don't have the CVV, and standard online activation won't work. Call 877-408-8866 instead.

Problem 4 Going to the wrong website

Several search results cite "jetbluemastercard.com" or "jetbluemastercard.com/activate" as the activation URL. We checked every Barclays official page we could find, and this URL does not appear on any of them. Use barclaycardus.com/servicing/activate.

If "jetbluemastercard.com" redirects to Barclays, fine — but we couldn't verify it, and typing an unverified URL while entering your card number and SSN is not something we'd recommend.

After Activation: The Steps Barclays Doesn't Mention

Activation makes the card work for purchases. But there are several post-activation steps that Barclays' confirmation screen doesn't walk you through. The fact that Barclays' activation page doesn't mention TrueBlue linking at all is a genuine oversight — it's the primary reason people get a JetBlue card.

1

Link Your Card to Your TrueBlue Account

This is separate from Barclays activation. Your JetBlue credit card earns TrueBlue points on every purchase, but only if the card is connected to your TrueBlue member number.

If you applied through JetBlue's website and already had a TrueBlue account, the linking may have happened automatically during the application. But verify it: log in to your TrueBlue account at jetblue.com/trueblue and check that your credit card appears under your profile.

If it wasn't linked automatically, go to jetblue.com/trueblue/credit-cards and follow the registration prompts.

2

Add Your Card to a Digital Wallet

Barclays has a dedicated page at barclaycardus.com/servicing/digitalWallets and a how-to guide at cards.barclaycardus.com/banking/how-to-add-your-card-to-a-digital-wallet/. The guide states: "Using the Barclays mobile app is the easiest way to add your card to your digital wallet."

3

Set Up Autopay and Online Account Access

If this is your first Barclays card, set up online access at barclaycardus.com so you can manage statements, payments, and alerts. Enabling autopay immediately protects you from missed payments — which, as one Reddit user in r/personalfinance (January 2024) learned the hard way, can happen even before you've activated the card if there's a balance transfer or fee posted to the account.

4

Security: Protect Your Card During Activation

The search results for "JetBlue credit card activation" are currently full of spam sites hosted on .edu domains, government portals, and library websites (we found at least six of these in the top 20 results). Some cite unverified URLs.

Only Use These for Activation
